China reports of severe crackdown on Internet piracy production

Chinese copyright authorities reported of deleting almost half a million unauthorized Internet audio video links, starting last year in June, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.

The agency said that 97 percent out of the discovered 410,000 Internet links of the pirated video and audio content have been detected and subsequently eliminated.

“The Chinese government has been cracking down on intellectual property violations by launching frequent, high-profile raids and campaigns,” the agency quoted a statement from the country’s Copyright Protection Center as saying.

The agency said citing General Administration of Press and Publication that “from October 2010 to June, authorities seized more than 13 million illegal audio and video products and print publications in a nationwide campaign.”
